Connect Emby to Stream
Add an Emby source to browse and play movies and TV shows from an Emby server. Stream uses the server's library structure and metadata while providing its own Android playback experience.
Before You Begin
- Set up an Emby server and media library.
- Create or choose an Emby user with access to the required libraries.
- Make sure the Android device can reach the server address.
Add the Emby Source
- Open File Source in Stream.
- Choose Add File Source, then select Emby under Media Server.
- Enter a name for the connection.
- Enter the full Emby server address, such as
http://192.168.1.20:8096. - Enter the Emby username and password.
- Choose Add. Stream signs in and verifies the server before saving it.
Open the saved source to browse the Emby libraries available to that user.
Supported Scope
Stream imports metadata and playback information exposed by the Emby server. Library visibility follows the permissions of the Emby user used for the connection.
Common Problems
- The server will not connect: Include the port and any base path used by the Emby installation.
- The user cannot sign in: Test the same credentials in the Emby web interface and confirm the account is enabled.
- Libraries are missing: Check the Emby user's library access permissions.
- Playback fails outside the home network: Confirm the server has a secure, reachable remote address and the necessary firewall configuration.
Privacy and Credentials
Stream uses the supplied password to authenticate with the Emby server, then stores the returned access token rather than the plaintext password. Authorization tokens are excluded from Stream's Google Drive sync data.
