How Do I Play Videos From OneDrive?

Add OneDrive when your videos are stored in a Microsoft account. On a phone, Stream opens Microsoft sign-in. On the upcoming Android TV app, the TV shows a device code you approve on another device. Browsing and playback need a network connection to OneDrive.

Before You Begin

Google Drive is not a video source in Stream. Google Drive sync, in Settings, only backs up source and library configuration. Passwords and authorization tokens are not part of that backup.

Sign In on a Phone

  1. Open File Source.
  2. Choose Add File Source, then select OneDrive under Cloud Drive.
  3. Complete the Microsoft sign-in that Stream opens.
  4. When authorization succeeds, Stream opens the drive so you can browse folders.

Browse to the folders that contain movies or TV shows and select them. During first-time setup, Stream asks you to select one or more folders and shows Add and scan. When you add the drive later, check a folder and confirm Add File Source. Stream scans the folders you select into the library.

Sign In on Android TV (Coming Soon)

  1. On the upcoming Android TV app (coming soon), TV setup will offer Cloud drives, then OneDrive. From Add File Source, OneDrive will be under Cloud Drive.
  2. The TV shows Authorize OneDrive on your phone, a code, and the address where you enter that code. When a QR code is available, it points at the same address.
  3. On a phone, open the address, enter the code, and finish Microsoft sign-in.
  4. Leave the TV on the waiting screen until authorization succeeds. Stream then opens the drive for folder selection.

The code is temporary. If it expires, or if the TV shows "OneDrive authorization failed", choose Retry and start the sign-in again. The rest of the TV remote steps are in How Will Stream Work on Android TV? (Coming Soon).

Scan and Play

Open a scanned title and press Play. The device needs a network path to OneDrive for browsing and playback.

Clear filenames make the library match more reliable. Use the video file naming rules when a title is wrong, or correct it from the detail page with Edit Metadata.

Supported Scope

Stream lists the folders you select and plays supported video from that OneDrive account. What you can open follows the Microsoft account you authorized.

Common Problems

Privacy and Authorization

Stream keeps the OneDrive authorization so it can read the account you signed in. Authorization tokens are not included in Google Drive sync, so another device needs its own sign-in.
